Cowboys outmuscle Oral Roberts

Big man Abou Ousmane scored a season-high 19 points and Oklahoma State used a dominant rebounding performance push aside Oral Roberts, 86-74, Sunday afternoon.
The Cowboys improved to 5-0 on their home court and 8-3 overall heading into next Monday's Big 12 conference opener against 15th-ranked Houston inside Gallagher-Iba Arena (7 p.m. CT, ESPN+).
Bryce Thompson scored 14 points and Jamyron Keller and Khalil Brantley added 10 each for OSU, which made just 3-of-14 three-point attempts but won the rebounding battle, 46-20, while outscoring the visitors, 31-14 at the foul line and 42-22 in the paint.
The Cowboys were especially good on the offensive glass, grabbing 17 of their 29 misses. A .586 offensive rebounding percentage was their best in nearly 18 years (.615 vs. SWOSU on Jan. 2, 2007).
Ousmane finished with a team-high seven rebounds and made all nine of his free throw attempts. Fellow big man Andrija Vukovic joined the free throw parade, knocking down 6-of-10 tries. The duo combined to draw 11 of ORU's 25 personal fouls.
Issac McBride finished with 27 points on 5-of-7 three-point shooting for the Golden Eagles (3-9) who collectively made 12-of-30 threes, including 7-of-13 in the first half.
The game was knotted a 29 with less than 4:00 to play before the break when the Cowboys' pressure began to take hold. Arturo Dean grabbed steals on three consecutive possessions – all of them leading to fastbreak points – during a 9-2 OSU spurt to close out the half.
OSU enjoyed a 39-31 halftime lead and built on its with a 53.3% second-half shooting performance.
The teams spent the first 10 minutes trading baskets before OSU reeled off 10 straight points. Dean's fourth steal of the day led to a Robert Jennings highlight reel dunk. Brantley capped the run with a three-pointer to make it a 71-52 game with 6:30 remaining.
The Cowboys took their largest lead of the day – 73-53 -- on an Ousmane jumper with 5:36 to go.
OSU has won six straight in its series with ORU and leads 21-5 all-time (14-1 in Stillwater).
