Cowboys Remain Third After First Weekend of Action

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State wrestling team held steady at the No. 3 spot in this week's NWCA Coaches Poll and had a wrestler ranked at every weight class by InterMat, it was announced Tuesday.
The Cowboys opened the 2024-25 season with wins over Utah Valley and 24th-ranked Oregon State last weekend, highlighted by six bonus-point wins in each. With final scores of 38-6 and 36-3, respectively, the performance marked Oklahoma State's highest point total through two duals since 2007-08.
Alongside Oklahoma State, the Big 12 had eight teams represented in No. 9 Missouri, No. 12 Iowa State, No. 13 South Dakota State, No. 14 Northern Iowa, No. 19 West Virginia, No. 22 Oklahoma and No. 23 Arizona State, who visits Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sunday. Meanwhile, Wyoming heads to Stillwater on Friday as the first team on the outside looking in.
Individually, Luke Surber bumped up two spots to No. 17 at 197 pounds, as did 141-pounder Tagen Jamison to the 12th spot. Surber went undefeated in two matches, pinning Utah Valley's Kael Bennie and knocking off No. 7 Trey Munoz of Oregon State for the third-highest ranked victory of his career, while Jamison was impressive in his 11-3 major decision over Nash Singleton on Sunday.
Heavyweight Wyatt Hendrickson joined 184-pounder Dustin Plott as the third-ranked wrestler at their respective weights, as fifth-ranked Dean Hamiti Jr. was not far behind at 174 pounds. Troy Spratley and Cameron Amine both occupied the sixth spot at 125 and 165 pounds, respectively.
Carter Young's pair of bonus-point wins kept him as the 18th-ranked 149-pounder, which was just behind No. 16 Teague Travis at 157 pounds. Cael Hughes rounded out the group as the 33rd-ranked wrestler at 133 pounds.
Oklahoma State makes its home debut this weekend with duals against Wyoming on Friday, November 22, and Arizona State two days later. Both matchups will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
