Cowgirl Equestrian Seventh in First Rankings of 2024
January 30, 2024 | Cowgirl Equestrian
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Cowgirl equestrian will enter its spring season ranked No. 7 by the NCEA, the association announced Tuesday.
The Cowgirls are 2-5 entering the second half of the 2023-24 season. Both wins came against conference opponents, Baylor and Fresno State, to lead to a 2-1 Big 12 record.
On the Western side, OSU is led by Horsemanship rider Claire McDowall, who leads the Cowgirls with six wins in seven rides in the fall. McDowall is also the reigning NCEA and Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Month for November after going 3-0 with two MOPs in as many meets.
For the Jumping Seat riders, Riley Hogan leads the way as one of OSU's most consistent dual threat riders. She's compiled eight total wins in the fall between Fences and Flat rides, with five coming from Fences. Hogan has secured two MOPs this year, one in both events.
OSU opens the spring season with back-to-back home meets against Baylor on Feb. 9 and SMU on Feb 17. OSU is 19-0 against Baylor all time and will look to win its 13th straight against the Bears. The Cowgirls will look to avenge a 10-7 loss against the Mustangs in Dallas from the fall season. SMU is settled at No. 3 in the rankings.
OSU travels to TCU to take on the No. 1 ranked Horned Frogs on Feb. 23 to begin three straight away meets. TCU and OSU are the only ranked teams in the Big 12.
The Cowgirls round out the regular season with a road trip to California, where they face conference rival Fresno State on March 2, followed by a competition against No. 9 UC Davis the following day.
