Cowgirls Comeback to Beat No. 12 UCLA, 4-3

DES MOINES, Iowa – Oklahoma State's third-ranked women's tennis team captured its third consecutive ranked win to open its season when it defeated No. 12 UCLA, 4-3, in a thriller on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Cowgirls improve to 3-0 with the win, with all three wins coming against top-15 ranked opponents. They also advance and will play the winner of Iowa State and Old Dominion's Saturday match on Sunday for a chance to advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships in Seattle, Washington.
UCLA took an early advantage, claiming the doubles point in dramatic fashion. The day began with the Bruins' Kimmi Hance and Sasha Vagramov beating Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez, 6-4, in the first match to finish on court two.
The No. 6 pairing of Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru answered for the Cowgirls, winning 6-3 on court one against Tian Fangran and Elise Wagle. With the doubles point riding on court three, UCLA's Ahmani Guichard and Anne Christine Lutkemeyer bested Kristina Novak and Safiya Carrington in a tie breaker, 7-6 (7-3).
With the Bruins leading 1-0, singles play began. UCLA's Wagle was the first to turn in a point, defeating No. 60 Miyamoto 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. On court six, Novak provided a spark for OSU, beating No. 99 Guichard, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.
The next to finish was court three, where No. 2 Kajuru pulled out a thriller against Kimmi Hance, winning 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) to tie the match at two. No. 53 Peyre then gave the Cowgirls their first lead, beating Lutkemeyer, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, in comeback fashion on court four.
UCLA would take the next point, as Bianca Fernandez defeated No. 62 Carrington, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). With the score tied at three, the match would come down to court one.
On court one, Komar completed another comeback win for the Cowgirls, beating Fangran 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, to secure the 4-3 victory for Oklahoma State.
