Cowgirls Wrap Up Day One in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team advanced four in singles and two doubles teams on the opening day of the Freeman Memorial Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Friday.
The day began with doubles, and all three Oklahoma State teams collected wins. Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru defeated UCLA's Tian Fangran and Bianca Fernandez, 6-2. Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez followed that with a 6-4 win over Sara Dahlstrom and Sophie Williams of Florida. Kristina Novak and Safiya Carrington rounded out the trio of Cowgirl victories with a 6-3 win against Nikki Redelijk and Vivian Yang of Pepperdine.
Komar was the first to earn her second win of the day, besting UNLV's Zita Kovacs, 6-2, 6-2, in the first round of singles. Lucia Peyre also picked up a singles win, beating Florida's Qavia Lopez, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. Carrington defeated Jasmine Conway of Pepperdine, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, while Gonzalez took down No. 99 Ahmani Guichard of UCLA, 6-4, 6-3.
Kajuru, Miyamoto and Novak fell in the opening round of singles but will continue competition in the consolation brackets in each of their draws.
Semifinal play will begin on Saturday, with doubles scheduled to start at 12 p.m. CT, followed by singles action. Fans can follow along through CowgirlTennis on social media or on okstate.com.
