September 03, 2023 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER – A flurry of second-half goals pushed Oklahoma State to a 5-2 victory over Central Arkansas Sunday at Neal Patterson Stadium.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Cowgirls, who improved to 5-1-0, while UCA fell to 0-4-2. OSU is now 4-0-0 at home this season.
After trailing at the half, OSU used four goals in the final 45 minutes to cruise to the win in a match that saw the Cowgirls outshoot the visitors by a 33-6 margin and own an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Five different Cowgirls scored in the contest, while Mollie Breiner recorded a pair of assists.
OSU struck first in the 17th minute when Logan Heausler took a cross from Megan Haines and beat the goalie to the near post for her third goal of the season.
Central Arkansas responded two minutes later with the equalizer as Maria Vanegas punched it in, and the Bears took a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute on Abbi Armstrong's score.
The visitors took the one-goal advantage into the halftime locker room, but the Cowgirls wasted little time overtaking the scoreboard after the break.
Just 89 seconds into the action, OSU scored off a corner kick. After Breiner's header was saved, Ellie Geoffroy was there to send in the rebound to tie the score at 2-2.
Less than a minute later, the Cowgirls were back on top as Breiner delivered a free kick into the box to Haines, who put a move on her defender before burying a shot near post for her first goal of the season.
OSU went up 4-2 when Shyann McClary netted the first goal of her career in the 59th minute off an assist by Heausler, and Xcaret Pineda put the finishing touches on the win with a left-footed laser for her third goal of the year with just over three minutes remaining.
