Cowgirl Soccer Wins Fifth In A Row
September 07, 2023 | Cowgirl Soccer
JONESBORO, Ark. – Oklahoma State extended its winning streak Thursday with a 1-0 victory over Arkansas State at A-State Soccer Park.
With their fifth-straight win, the Cowgirls improved to 6-1-0 on the season, while ASU fell to 2-3-1.
Mollie Breiner's goal was the difference, and Grace Gordon collected three saves to post her second shutout of the season.
OSU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Off an Xcaret Pineda corner kick, Breiner rose above everyone and headed the ball to the near post to give the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead just 92 seconds into the match.
Breiner's goal was her first of the season as she became the 11th different Cowgirl to find the back of the net on the year.
The Cowgirls continued to control the attack, outshooting ASU by a 15-5 margin in the opening half, but could not find another score as they took the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Possession continued to be heavily in favor of OSU in the second half, but the Cowgirls could not add to their lead despite 19 shots following intermission.
OSU finished with a 34-7 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks as ASU goalie Olivia Luther recorded 10 saves, including a penalty kick stop with just over eight minutes remaining in the match.
The Cowgirls return to action Sunday at SMU with the match set for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
