September 28, 2023 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State remained perfect at home and in conference play and picked up its first win over a ranked team this season with a 2-1 victory over 19th-ranked UCF Thursday night at Neal Patterson Stadium.
The win was the fifth in a row for the Cowgirls, who improved to 11-2-0 and remained atop the Big 12 standings at 4-0-0, and OSU is now 8-0-0 on its home field this season. UCF fell to 7-3-0 and 3-1-0 in league play.
Ellie Geoffroy knocked in her third goal of the season, while Xcaret Pineda cashed in for the sixth time, one back of the team lead.
Grace Gordon, who has allowed only two goals during OSU's five-game winning streak, recorded four saves against the Knights.
The Cowgirls jumped out in front in the 15th minute when Laudan Wilson took a corner kick from the near side and connected with Geoffroy for the point-blank header. It marked Wilson's sixth assist of the season, tying her for the team lead.
OSU dominated offensively in the opening half, outshooting the Knights by a 15-3 margin and taking the 1-0 lead into intermission.
UCF evened the score in the 53rd minute on a Dayana Martin goal, but the score was not tied for long.
Less than eight minutes later, Pineda put the Cowgirls back on top. After controlling the ball when it ricocheted off a defender, she blasted a shot from 30-yards out that UCF goalie Caroline DeLisle was unable to control.
OSU kept the Knights at bay over the final 30 minutes despite the visitors outshooting the Cowgirls, 13-9, in the final half.
The Cowgirls return to action Sunday with a road contest at TCU. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
