Cowgirl Tennis Finishes Day Three in California

STILLWATER – Members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team competed in the singles and doubles draws across two tournaments in California on Saturday.
The day began with doubles play at the USTA Intercollegiate Championships in San Diego. Top-seeded Anastasiya Komar and Raquel Gonzalez made their doubles debut together, defeating Abigail Desiatnikov and Filippa Bruu-Syversen of the University of San Diego, 6-4. Safiya Carrington and Kristina Novak followed that with a win of their own, defeating Colorado's Elys Ventura and Pia Rebec, 6-4.
In the quarterfinals, Komar and Gonzalez turned in a convincing win, defeating Kansas duo Tamari Gagoshidze and Gracie Mulville, 6-1. Carrington and Novak once again followed with a win, besting another Kansas pair in Jocelyn Massey and Silvia Maria Costache, 7-5. Both teams advanced to the semifinals, set to begin tomorrow.
In singles, Carrington registered the only Cowgirl victory, defeating six seed Elizabeth Goldsmith of the University of San Diego, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Gonzalez fell to fifth seed Andjela Skrobonja from San Diego State, 6-2, 6-4. Novak's run also came to an end with a, 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (5-7), loss to Cal State-Fullerton's Josie Usereau.
After a win in the Round of 16, Carrington completed another victory in the quarterfinals, defeating four seed and No. 99 Malaika Rapolu from Texas, 6-2, 6-3. She will be back in action tomorrow against Mia Mack from the University of San Diego in the semifinals.
At the Battle of the Bay in San Francisco, three Cowgirls met in the doubles semifinals. Ange Oby Kajuru and Ayumi Miyamoto took on Lucia Peyre and her partner Savannah Broadus from Pepperdine, with the latter pair prevailing, 8-5. Peyre and Broadus will play in the doubles final tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. CT.
In singles, Miyamoto and Kajuru each saw their tournament come to an end in the semifinals. Miyamoto fell to No. 45 Amelia Honer from UCSB, 7-5, 6-2, while Kajuru came up short against No. 26 Connie Ma from Stanford, 6-0, 6-3.
