Cowgirls Open Sixth After First Day At Carmel Cup
September 01, 2023 | Cowgirl Golf
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Oklahoma State women's golf kicked off their 2023-24 season on Friday, finishing in sixth place through round-one action of the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Placing a combined score of 370, the Cowgirls sit at 10-over, trailing Stanford (-8) and Arkansas (-7), with Texas A&M Mississippi State and Vanderbilt knotted in a three-way tie at 364 (+4).
After 18 holes, OSU carries a one-stroke advantage over seventh-place Texas Tech and a 17-stroke margin over Oklahoma.
The Carmel Cup sees each team field six starters while counting the top five individual scores. This unique scoring format differs from the more traditional four counting scores format.
In her Cowgirl debut, freshman Marta Silchenko posted a strong opening round to finish an even 72 in her first round. Silchenko hit the gas early, tallying three consecutive birdies on hole Nos. 2, 3 and 4.
Clemence Martin was consistent in round one, ending the day one over at 73. Martin is no stranger to these types of efforts, entering the season with a stroke average of 72.33.
Oklahoma State's starting seniors, Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Angelica Pfefferkorn, checked in at 2-over on the day.
Thitaporn Saithip carded a 77 on the day, while, in her debut, Ellie Bushnell posted a 78.
The Cowgirls return to the links for second-round action tomorrow morning.
