STILLWATER – Three second-half goals led Oklahoma State to a 3-0 win over Oral Roberts in a spring exhibition match Sunday afternoon at Neal Patterson Stadium.
The win improves the Cowgirls' record to 4-0 in the spring exhibition season. It marks their third shutout, and they have outscored their opponents 19-1 in the four games.
In the first half, it was the Golden Eagles who got the first chance. Within the opening 10 minutes, ORU nearly passed one back across the goal for an attacker, however Cowgirl freshman Laudan Wilson had a timely tackle in the box to deny the chance.
OSU grew into the game however and nearly grabbed a lead before the halftime whistle. Sophomore Sami Allen connected with a through ball and struck it hard at the net, but the ORU keeper got her gloves to it.
In the opening five minutes of the second half, the Cowgirls took the lead. Following a corner, freshman Addison Roberts headed home a cross to put OSU up 1-0.
The Pokes added a second goal in the 72nd minute, this one again off another corner. Xcaret Pineda's pinpoint kick found Logan Heausler in the box, and Heausler connected with a powerful header that found the back of the net.
OSU's final goal of the game came with just over five minutes left. Beautiful team passing led the Cowgirls into ORU's half, with Megan Haines running down the right side. She passed it across the goal right into Gracie Bindbeutel's stride, and the sophomore finished it coolly to round out the scoring, 3-0.
The Cowgirls conclude their spring season Saturday against Tulsa at Neal Patterson Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
