April 08, 2023 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER – Two goals in each half lifted Oklahoma State to a 4-1 win over Tulsa in the Cowgirls' spring season exhibition finale Saturday afternoon at Neal Patterson Stadium.
With the win, OSU finished its spring season a perfect 5-0, outscoring its opponents by a margin of 23-2.
The Cowgirls opened the game with a flurry of shots on goal, however, they could not find the breakthrough in the first 20 minutes.
But just past the halfway mark of the first half, sophomore Xcaret Pineda fired a shot towards goal that found the feet of junior Hannah Chance, who capitalized and tapped home the game's first goal in the 24th minute.
With just three minutes remaining before intermission, OSU added its second when Hayley Ledford's solo effort from near the penalty spot found the back of the net to give the team a two-goal cushion at the break.
Tulsa responded well in the second half, with neither team able to get anything going for the first 20 minutes.
However, in the 67th minute, sophomore Logan Heausler connected with a ball deep in the TU half, rounded the keeper and fired home OSU's third of the game. The goal was Heausler's team-leading sixth of the spring season.
Tulsa ended the shutout as the Golden Hurricane got one past goalkeeper Peyton Pearson, who split time with Ary Purifoy in net in the contest, in the 84th minute to get on the board.
In the game's final minutes, attacker Sami Allen dribbled her way through the TU defense and hit a beautiful shot into the upper-right corner to re-establish OSU's three-goal lead and provide the final margin of victory.
