Maxwell Returns To 2023 U.S. Women’s National Team Roster For WBSC World Cup
April 14, 2023 | Cowgirl Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma State redshirt senior pitcher Kelly Maxwell is one of 16 athletes named to the 2023 United States Women's National Team (WNT) World Cup Group A roster slated to compete at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup in Fingal-Dublin, Ireland from July 11-15.
Making her second appearance as a member of the U.S. WNT, Maxwell is one of 13 returners from the 2022 U.S. WNT and one of five that competed in the 2022 Japan All-Star Series, in which she maintained a 0.00 ERA and tabbed four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
Along with her performance on the international stage in the Red, White and Blue, Maxwell's collegiate career at OSU further validates her return to the U.S. WNT.
In her second season as the ace of the Cowgirls' pitching staff, the All-American lefty currently leads the Big 12 Conference in hits allowed per seven innings (2.90), saves (five), strikeouts (147) and strikeouts per seven innings (11.7).
Her season-long domination in 2022 – highlighted by a 21-5 record, a 1.22 ERA and 313 strikeouts – led to her selection as a unanimous first team All-American and Co-Big 12 Pitcher of the Year.
Maxwell and the U.S. WNT will compete in a two-stage format with 18 teams competing across three groups (Group A, B and C) in Stage 1 followed by Stage 2, which will be held in 2024 and will include the top two teams from each group battling it out in the finals.
Athletes were selected by the Women's National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC) based on previous and ongoing evaluations at the collegiate and professional levels as well as USA Softball National Team events, trials and camps.
