FRESNO, Calif. – Oklahoma State saw its four-meet win streak come to an end in a 10-9 loss to No. 9 Fresno State.
The loss drops the fifth-ranked Cowgirls to 6-4 on the season and 4-2 in Big 12 play. This marks only the third loss in 16 all-time meetings with Fresno State and snaps a six-meet win streak for OSU against the Bulldogs.
"We may have lost today, but I'm proud of the grit and determination of this team," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "I've said before, we still have some work to do in preparation for the postseason, and I know we're willing to do what's necessary."
Due to weather conditions, each event was held in the same arena, beginning with Fences.
In Fences, Sydney North continued to dominate, claiming her fifth-straight point and third MOP of the spring in an 85-76 win. Riley Hogan followed that by beating Olivia Ferro, 83-69, before Fresno State got on the board with an Ana Bertozzi 81-79 win over Grace McReynolds. Emma Pacyna responded by winning the Cowgirls' third Fences point, 84-82, before Elle Martin claimed the final point of the even, besting Hope King 73-67.
After a short break, the meet continued with Horsemanship. Ella Storch opened the event by winning Fresno State's only Horsemanship point, beating Peyton Baxter 76.5-69.5. Freshman June Roberson followed that in a big way, setting a new career-high and winning her first ever MOP in a 77-75.5 win. Claire McDowall then narrowly won her point, 75.5-75, before Jojo Roberson bested her opponent, 75-72.5. Maddie Fussell took the last Horsemanship point, coming up a half-point short of her season-high in a 76.5-74.5 win.
With the Cowgirls leading 7-3 at the halfway point of the meet, Fresno State completed a sweep in Flat. Bertozzi led it off with an 88-83 win over Elizabeth Carter before Taylor Holstead beat McReynolds 83-58. Martin then bested King 88-86 followed by Sara Tuck beating Hogan 96-88. Jillian Spencer won the final point of the event, besting Ella Reinauer 80-76.
Fresno State took a one-point lead into Reining, but OSU re-took the lead early, winning the first two points of the event. Molly Mitchell got things started with a 73.5-69.5 win before Tristan Bagby posted a career-high in her 75.5-74.5 victory. Fresno State would claim the next two points to take back the lead. Shelby Robinette bested Hannah Lovrien 73.5-0 before Sarah Semrau beat Jojo Roberson 78.5-73.5. The final point would go unawarded, as Quincee Clark and Fresno State's Julianne Kelley each scored 74.5, sealing the Bulldog victory.
The Cowgirls will be back home next weekend as they'll take on the University of Lynchburg in a Jumping Seat only meet.
