OSU Outdoor Track & Field Wraps Up Day One at Texas Relays as it Looks Ahead to Multi-Meet Weekend

AUSTIN, Texas – Four Oklahoma State track & field athletes began their outdoor seasons Thursday at the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
All four athletes competing in Thursday's events notched outdoor personal bests in their respective competitions and all four entered the top 10 on OSU's leaderboard for those events.
Michaela Travers and Madi Surber made their outdoor season debuts in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Both women got off to a hot start on the year, with Travers tabbing a 59.13 time, which moves her into fourth place all-time and Surber's 1:01.64 time holding her at eighth in OSU history.
In the men's 800 Meters later in the afternoon, Hafez Mahadi and Mehdi Yanouri finished together in second and third in the first heat, leading to two top-10 finishes overall. Mahadi steadily worked his way from seventh to second in the heat, to put him neck-in-neck with Yanouri, who rode the top spot for most of the race. Mahadi and Yanouri move into fifth and sixth on OSU's leaderboard, respectively.
The multi-meet weekend resumes tomorrow as OSU's top distance runners make their outdoor season debuts in Palo Alto, Calif., at the Stanford Invitational.
Outdoor All-Americans Alex Maier and Victor Shitsama make their season debuts together in the 10,000 Meters on Friday. Maier has the third-fastest 10K time in OSU history, finishing last year's Bryan Clay Invitational in 13:26.81 and is the reigning NCAA Runner-Up in the event. Shitsama is also entered in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase earlier in the day.
Additionally, Rory Leonard will join Maier and Shitsama in the 10K. Leonard became a first-team All-Big 12 athlete for his performance in the event in last year's Big 12 Championship with his seventh-place time of 30:26.69.
Alongside Shitsama in the Steeplechase, Jonah Price returns to the outdoor circuit for the first time since 2021, where he garnered All-Big 12 recognition. In his inaugural outdoor campaign, he posted three straight top 10 performances, including a sixth-place finish at the Big 12 Championships.
For the Cowgirls, All-Americans Taylor Roe and Gabby Hentemann begin their outdoor seasons in 10K, with Roe also entered in the 5,000 Meters. Hentemann earned First-Team All-American status in the 10K last year for the first time, after being an honorable mention in 2021. She has the fourth-fastest time in OSU history in the event, with Roe participating for the first time.
Roe enters the 5K with OSU's fastest time with her performance in last year's Bryan Clay Invitational, setting the record with 20 seconds to spare. At this point in the year, Roe is now a seven-time All-American, picking up three honors spread across cross country and indoor track & field.
Molly Born and Taylor Somers will join Roe and Hentemann in the 10K, marking their first appearances in outdoor competition this season as well. Born's 33:10.77 time in the 10K places her third overall on OSU's leaderboard, while Somers' 33:51.17 time also puts her in the top 10.
Cowgirl veterans Sivan Auerbach, Maddie Salek and Heidi Demeo will head the middle-distance events. Auerbach and Salek will be joined in Saturday's 800 Meters by several OSU newcomers, including freshman phenom Billah Jepkirui, who is coming off an All-American performance for the women's DMR. Auerbach is a 2021 outdoor All-American honorable mention in the 800 Meters and additionally holds the ninth-fastest time in the 1,500 Meters in OSU history.
Action in Texas is set to start at 9 a.m. CT, while men's and women's 5K athletes will kick things off in Stanford at 2:40 p.m. CT.
