Cowgirl Softball Claims Extra Inning Win At Tulsa
March 29, 2023 | Cowgirl Softball
TULSA, Okla. – Rachel Becker's ninth-inning two-run home run lifted the No. 2 Oklahoma State softball team to a 3-1 win over Tulsa, Wednesday evening at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
With the win, OSU improved to 30-2 and TU fell to 14-16.
Today's extra inning win marked Oklahoma State's second of the season, and improved OSU's extra-inning record to 17-7 in the Gajewski era.
Neither team could get many bats to balls, with only five hits combined through four innings full.
Kyra Aycock led the way for OSU, as the true freshman pitched 6.0 shutout innings against the Golden Hurricane. The right-hander struck out four batters and allowed zero walks.
It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Pokes nabbed their first run of the game. Redshirt freshman Micaela Wark hit her sixth home run of the year to put the Cowgirls on top, 1-0.
The Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, Lexi Kilfoyl, entered the circle in the seventh. Three consecutive base-hits from the Golden Hurricane plated a run and forced the game into extra innings.
Following a leadoff single from Morgyn Wynne in the top of the ninth, Becker called game. The two-run bomb – her first as a Cowgirl and the 10th of her career – propelled the Cowgirls to a 3-1 victory.
Kilfoyl improved to 9-1 on the year as she shut down TU in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win.
With 10 total hits on the night, the Pokes have now tallied double-digit hits on 14 occasions.
Up next, the Cowgirls travel to Incarnate Word on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Cardinals, with first pitch set for 11 a.m. CT. Fans can tune in on ESPN+ and The Varsity Network.
