Cowgirl Equestrian Captures Third-Straight Big 12 Title

STILLWATER, Okla.Β β For the ninth time in program history and third-straight season, Oklahoma State Equestrian won the Big 12 Championship, defeating TCU, 12-8, on Saturday at the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center.Β

This marks the second time the Cowgirls have won three consecutive titles in program history while it extends their postseason win streak to seven. It also gave them two wins in three meetings with TCU this season and wins in four of the last five against the Horned Frogs.

After the meet, All-Big 12 season awards were handed out. Sydney North and Riley Hogan were named to the All-Big 12 Fences team while Claire McDowall and Jojo Roberson made appearances on the All-Big 12 Horsemanship team. For Roberson, this is the second All-Big 12 selection of her career.

"You put the girls in a position and you watch them take hold and take passion of their goal and what they're wanting to do, and to see them reach their goals and achieve their dreams that they've had for a long, long time, that's what's truly special."

The meet started with Fences, where the Cowgirls took an early 4-1 lead. All-Big 12 selection North got the Cowgirls started in a big way, defeating Jordyn Scelsa 265-213. The next two points came from Sydnie Ziegler, as she outscored Ella Bostwick, 257-249, and Grace McReynolds defeating Isabella Baxter,250-247. Emma Pacyna outrode Sydney Berube, 255-238, before Hogan came up short of Ashleigh Scully, 247-238.

In Horsemanship, TCU took a 4-1 advantage. The Horned Frogs collected the first three points, starting with Maddie Fussell narrowly losing to Giorgia Medows, 224-226, before Jojo Roberson came up short against Mattie Dukes, 224.5-226. June Roberson then fell just shy of Shea Graham, 219-220.5, before the Cowgirls claimed their only point asΒ McDowall bested Payton Boutelle, 218-215.Β Natalie Vargo would fall to Jessica McAllister to conclude the event.

With the meet tied at five, the teams proceeded into Flat and Reining.

In Flat, the Cowgirls delivered, winning four of five points. Ella Reinauer started things by besting Sydney Berube, 241-235. The next two points came from Hope King and Hogan, defeating their opponents, 237-220 and 205-200. TCU's Wynne Weatherly outscoredΒ McReynolds for TCU's only Flat point, 249-245, before Elizabeth Carter rounded out the discipline by beating Sydnie Young, 254-217.

With OSU needing two points to clinch, the meet concluded with Reining. Jojo Roberson earned her point, beating Shea Graham, 209.5-0, but Mattie Dukes answered, claiming one of TCUs two points by outscoring Molly Mitchell, 208.5-203.5. The next two points went to the Cowgirls with Quincee Clark defeating Lannie-Jo Lisac, 218.5-215, and Hannah Lovrien besting Giorgia Medows, 209-200.5, meaning OSU had clinched the meet. TCU claimed the meet's final point, with Jessica McAllister beating Tristan Bagby, 214.5-204.Β

Oklahoma State will look to build on its conference title as it prepares to defend its national championship. The Cowgirls will travel to Ocala, Florida, April 13-15 for the NCEA National Championship.
