Cowgirl Equestrian Advances to Big 12 Championship Meet

STILLWATER —Top-seed Oklahoma State defeated fourth-seeded Baylor, 12-8, Friday in the semifinal of the Big 12 Championship to earn a spot in the championship meet tomorrow in Stillwater. With the win, the Cowgirls have now advanced to the final round for the seventh-straight year.
The win improved OSU to 7-4 on the season and 5-2 against conference opponents. It also extends its postseason win streak to six and makes it 11-straight wins over the Bears. Tomorrow, Oklahoma State will look to capture back-to-back-to-back Big 12 titles for the second time in program history.
The first discipline of the day was Flat, where the Cowgirls claimed the majority of the points, 4-1. Grace McReynolds got things started by defeating Madeline Vorhies, 221-209, improving her to 7-4 on the season. OSU's next two points came from Elizabeth Carter and Hope King, winning 212-195 and 238-199, before Ella Reinauer bested Madison Mitchell, 235-176, giving her three wins in her last four meets. Cowgirl Riley Hogan fell to Dominika Silvestri 209-216 to finish the event.
Next up was Horsemanship where the Cowgirls skimmed past the Bears, 3-2. Maddie Fussell and Jojo Roberson claimed the first two points, outscoring Isabella Rosa and Elsie Naruszewicz, 221-193.5 and 225-222. Roberson improves to 8-3 on the season in Horsemanship and has wins in eight of her last nine meets. The Bears claimed the next two points with June Roberson and Claire McDowall falling, 209.5-218.5 and 217.5-219.5. Natalie Vargo rounded Horsemanship out, beating Marley Mainwaring 222.5-219.5.
To begin the second half, the Bears took Fences. Riley Hogan won the first point, defeating Madison Mitchell, 209-120, to improve to 11-2 on the year. The next three points went to the Bears. Elizabeth Carter lost to Lauren Jorgensen, 227-233 before Grace McReynolds came up short to Lauren Reid, 253-234, and Sydney North fell just shy of Dominika Silvestri, 251-260. The second Cowgirl Fences point came from Emma Pacyna when she defeated Madeline Vorhies, 248-246. Pacyna has now won five out of her last six Fences points.
Heading into Reining, Cowgirls had a 9-6 lead, needing two points to clinch the win. Jojo Roberson started off strong, defeating Madaline Callaway, 218-212.5, moving her to 8-3 on the year. The meet-clinching point was secured by Quincee Clark when she outscored Daisy Kaufman, 215.5-193. With the win, Clark moved to 7-2-2 on the season. The Bears claimed the next two points when Molly Mitchell fell to Jenna Meimerstorf, 206.5-212, and Hannah Lovrien narrowly lost to Andie Pratt, 210-210.5. Tristan Bagby claimed the final point of the meet for the Cowgirls, defeating Shelby Clausen, 212-197.
OSU will get a chance to defend its Big 12 title when it takes on two-seed TCU at 12 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
