Cowboy Cross Country and Track & Field Ranked No. 1 in Program of the Year Standings Following Indoor Season
March 22, 2023 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's cross country and track & field moved into the top spot of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Program of the Year rankings following its performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Cowboys took a two-point lead over Northern Arizona following their sixth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships, compared with NAU's finish of ninth overall in the team standings. OSU leads the country with just 8.5 points (2 in cross country, 6.5 in indoor track) with NAU (10.5), BYU (15.5), Washington (18) and Wisconsin (22) rounding out the top five.
OSU has never won the award, finishing as high as second during the 2013-14 season. In the event of a tie, the program that finishes higher head-to-head in all three championships will earn the award.
The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons) based on the institution's finish at the NCAA Championships.
To be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NCAA Championships. Scoring is based on the team's finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points … 31st = 31 points) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award winner. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.
