North Named Big 12 Rider of the Month
March 01, 2023 | Cowgirl Equestrian
IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference has named Oklahoma State Equestrian's Sydney North as its Fences Rider of the Month for February.
This is the first time in North's career she has earned the award. She joins Jojo Roberson, who earned the Horsemanship honor in November, as Cowgirls to be named Big 12 Rider of the Month this season.
North becomes the first Cowgirl to win Big 12 Rider of the Month in Fences since last spring when Sydnie Ziegler won the award in February and March. Prior to that, OSU hadn't claimed the award in Fences since 2019.
North has had an impressive start to the spring, going 3-0 while earning back-to-back MOP awards. Against No. 5 Georgia, she had the largest margin of victory for a Cowgirl this season who didn't ride against a zero, winning 79-41, to earn MOP honors. She followed that by posting a meet-high Fences score in her 88-79 win at Baylor, claiming another MOP. Last Saturday, North once again scored the best of any Fences rider, winning her point 83-80 to help the Cowgirls knock off No. 2 TCU in Stillwater.
The two MOP honors in February were North's first two this season and gave her three in her career. She joined Roberson as the only Cowgirls to win the award in back-to-back meets this season.
North has been a key component in OSU opening its spring schedule with three-straight wins over ranked opponents. The Cowgirls will head to California this weekend to take on two more ranked opponents on Friday and Saturday as they gear up to defend their Big 12 and NCEA national titles.
