OSU Softball Heads West For Troy Cox Classic

The Basics
The No. 4/4 Oklahoma State softball team takes its six-game win streak out west for a third consecutive weekend on the road to compete at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on Friday and Saturday. On the way back to Stillwater, the Cowgirls make a stop in El Paso, Texas to take on UTEP on Sunday.
At the Troy Cox Classic, OSU faces New Mexico and Nebraska on Friday at 10 a.m. CT and 12:30 p.m. CT, respectively. On Saturday, the Cowgirls are slated to take on CSU Bakersfield at 10 a.m. CT and tournament host New Mexico State at 12:30 p.m. CT. Oklahoma State's matchup with UTEP is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT on Sunday.

Six starters are back from a 2022 team that put together a 40 win season, which ended at the
Women'sCollege World Series for an NCAA era program record third consecutive year. Five of OSU's
returning starters were also starters on the Cowgirls' 2021 WCWS team and two of them started for OSU
during its 2019 WCWS appearance.Â
Returning for the Cowgirls are All-Americans Kelly Maxwell and Katelynn Carwile, as well as a pair of
graduate veterans and All-Big 12 regulars Chyenne Factor and Kiley Naomi.
Impact newcomers include two-time All-Big Ten honoree and All-American infielder Rachel Becker,
All-SEC Newcomer and All-Region pitcher Lexi Kilyfoyl and 2022 NFCA DI Freshman of the Year finalist
Megan Bloodworth.Â
A talented freshman class – including six members of the Extra Inning Softball Elite 100 – enter the
mix. Tallen Edwards (No. 3 overall), Haidyn Sokoloski (No. 17 overall) and Kyra Aycock (No. 26 overall)
are all likely candidates to see meaningful playing time in their first year with the Cowgirls. Angelina
Craig, Katie Lott, Lexi McDonald and Claire Timm round out the 20th ranked signing class in the
country, per Extra Inning Softball.

Oklahoma State added to its series lead over Nebraska – now at 50-48 – after a run rule victory against the Cornhuskers on February 16 at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational.
OSU takes on New Mexico State for the first time since 2017.. The meeting will renew a series history that favors the Pokes, 18-3.

Oklahoma State has claimed Big 12 Conference weekly awards in each of the first two weeks of the 2023 season.
After the Cowgirls opening weekend at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, Kelly Maxwell was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week. As the starter in Oklahoma State's season opener versus No. 24/22 Oregon, Maxwell tallied 15 strikeouts en route to a complete game shutout.Â
Closing out the Cowgirls' opening weekend, she appeared for a scoreless 6.0 innings and struck out eight against Ole Miss. In total, the redshirt senior maintained a 0.00 ERA, totaled 23 strikeouts, and allowed only four hits and two walks in 13.0 innings pitched.
A week later, as the Cowgirls swept their way through the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational, Kiley Naomi claimed the first weekly conference honor of her career thanks to her stellar offensive performance.       The graduate shortstop went 7-for-12 (.583) with 4 HR – including a two-HR game in back-to-back at-bats against No. 8/9 Virginia Tech on February 17 and her first career grand slam against No. RV/22 Louisiana on February 18 – along with seven runs scored and 12 RBI. In total, she tallied 20 total bases and a 1.667 slugging percentage. In the field, she was responsible for three putouts, 12 assists and zero errors, maintaining a 1.000 fielding percentage in five games started.
Dinger Derby
The Oklahoma State offense blasted its way into the national spotlight during its domination of the TaxAct Clearwater Elite Invitational, where it run-ruled four of its five opponents, all of whom were either ranked or received votes in one or both national polls.
As a team, the Cowgirls launched 12 home runs, including four career firsts (Tallen Edwards, Katie Lott, Audrey Schneidmiller and Micaela Wark), two grand slams against No. RV/22 Louisiana (Kiley Naomi and Morgyn Wynne) and a run rule walk off over No. 25/RV Michigan (Wark).
Including the first grand slam of her career, Naomi smashed four home runs in total, which places her in a tie for the Big 12 lead. Four home runs through the first two weeks of the 2023 season ranks higher than 101 NCAA DI teams.
