Fouad Messaoudi Named Big 12 Track & Field Co-Athlete of the Week Following Record-Setting Weekend
February 15, 2023 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State distance runner Fouad Messaoudi was named Big 12 Men's Co-Athlete of the Week for the last set of weekly honors for the 2023 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Season, the conference announced Wednesday.
Messaoudi continued his breakout sophomore campaign this past weekend at the Husky Classic in Seattle, defeating a loaded field and breaking the program record in the 3,000 Meters. His record at the Husky was the third occasion this season he has taken down a previous school record. He set the current program marks in the Mile at the Razorback Invitational in January as well as the previous 3K school record at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston back in December.
This is the fourth time a Cowboy has been awarded Indoor Big 12 Athlete of the Week, joining German Fernandez (2009), Tyreek Hill (2014) and John Teeters (2015).
As it stands, Messaoudi would qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in both events as he ranks third in the 3,000 Meters and eighth in the Mile nationally. His 3,000 Meter time of 7:41.63 also ranks seventh in NCAA history.
Messaoudi and the rest of the Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back in action Friday at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Ark.
