OSU Track & Field Scorches Records in Boston Season Opener

BOSTON – Oklahoma State track & field opened the indoor season Saturday at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, with multiple athletes breaking school records in distance events.
Multi-time All-American Gabija Galvydyte officially kicked off the OSU indoor slate in impressive fashion, taking home the meet victory in the women's Mile with an NCAA-leading time of 4:33.29. Sivan Auerbach, Grace Boone, Heidi Demeo and Mandeep Sangha also opened their seasons in the Mile, with each of them setting new personal bests in the event. Auerbach's time of 4:37.94 also ranks her tenth in program history.
Up next for the Cowgirls was three-time All-American Billah Jepkirui in the women's 3,000 Meters. In one of the fastest 3K's in collegiate history, Jepkirui held her own for a fourth-place finish, setting the tenth-fastest time in NCAA with her mark of 8:49.08. Her time also shattered the school record by over seven seconds, previously held by Cowgirl national champion Taylor Roe.
On the men's side, the Cowboys continued the record-breaking trend as cross country All-American Brian Musau ran the fourth-fastest 3,000 Meter race in NCAA history with his time of 7:38.04. Musau's mark also broke Cowboy national champion Fouad Messaoudi's school record in the event by over three seconds. In the same race, Ryan Schoppe completed the seventh-fastest 3K time in NCAA history at 7:38.80. His time also surpassed the previous school record set last season.
The night cap featured several impressive 5K performances by both the Cowboys and Cowgirls. Molly Born kicked things off in the women's 5,000 Meters. Born opened her indoor season by running the second-fastest 5K time in school history with her mark of 15:36.04. In the men's 5K, Alex Maier took home ninth in a loaded race with his time of 13:21.28 as Denis Kipngetich and Jonas Price each set new personal bests in the event. Kipngetich's time of 13:26.34 ranks him third in school history.
