OSU Track & Field Returns to Indoor Circuit for Arkansas Invitational
January 11, 2024 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State indoor track & field returns to action Friday for the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Friday's meet marks the first time during the 2023-24 season that all of OSU's event groups will compete at the same meet. The Cowgirls and Cowboys are coming off a 2022-23 season that included the first-ever women's Big 12 track & field championship and a men's sixth-place finish at the NCAA meet, highlighted by a pair of NCAA championships in the men's Distance Medley Relay and Fouad Messaoudi in the 3,000 Meters.
Nearly 80 Cowboys and Cowgirls will be making their season debuts Friday with a few athletes returning for their second meet of the season after competing at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener last month in Boston.
First team All-American Gabija Galvydyte is making her second appearance of the season after winning the Mile in Boston with a time of 4:33.29, which currently leads the NCAA. At the Arkansas Invitational, she will be competing in the 600 Meter run, where she currently sits eighth in meet history with her time of 1:29.19 in 2022.
In addition to Galvydyte, two more school record holders will be making their season debuts this week with Hafez Mahadi (800 Meters, DMR) and Saara Hakanen (High Jump, Triple Jump) competing in the 1,000 Meters and High Jump, respectively. Mahadi was a member of the 2023 Cowboy DMR that set the collegiate and unofficial world record in the event with their time of 9:16.40 at the Arkansas Qualifier.
The Arkansas Invitational will be streamed on SEC Network + starting at 3 p.m. CT.
