SALINA, Kan. – Oklahoma State wrestling assistant coach Tyler Caldwell was inducted into the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday as part of the 2023 KWCA Awards Banquet.
Originally from Wichita, Kan., Caldwell is one of four members in the 2023 class, which also includes a trio of legendary Kansas high school wrestling coaches in Andy Niemczyk, Doug Vander Linden and Travis Keal.
Caldwell graduated from Goddard High School in 2009 as one of the most accomplished wrestlers in Kansas history. He was a four-time Kansas state champion, compiling an impressive 150-4 record throughout his career and set a state record with 125 career falls. Following his graduation, Caldwell was named Kansas' recipient of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award, a prestigious honor given by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame to celebrate one's excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, citizenship and community service.
Following back-to-back All-American seasons at Oklahoma, including an NCAA runner-up finish as a sophomore, Caldwell transferred to Stillwater, where he continued to compete at the highest level. As a Cowboy, Caldwell posted a 63-9 record with 30 bonus point victories. He earned All-American status in each of his two seasons in an orange singlet, reaching the NCAA finals once again as a senior, to become a four-time All-American and two-time NCAA finalist.
Caldwell is entering his seventh year on staff at Oklahoma State, first as an assistant coach, after spending the previous six seasons as the program's recruiting coordinator. While serving in that position, the Cowboys consistently signed classes ranked in the top-five nationally, including the No. 1 class of 2023 in his final season in the role. He also played a major part in OSU signing the top-ranked class in 2020, consisting of the No. 1 overall recruit and No. 2 pound-for-pound wrestler in the nation.
