Cowgirls Have Successful Day in Tennessee

JACKSON, Tenn. – Members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team competed at the ITF Jackson 15 pro circuit event in Jackson, Tenn., on Wednesday.
After advancing through the qualifying draw yesterday, Kristina Novak and Ayumi Miyamoto picked up wins in the singles main draw. Novak defeated Stefani Webb, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, while Miyamoto knocked off eighth-seeded Solymar Colling, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
Lucia Peyre, the tournament's top seed, also got a singles win on Wednesday, defeating Elizabeth Ionescu, 6-2, 6-2. Raquel Gonzalez was the lone Cowgirl to see her run come to an end, falling to Kolie Allen, 6-1, 5-7, 4-6.
In doubles, three Cowgirls punched their tickets to the second round of the main draw. Gonzalez and her partner, fellow Spaniard Mercedes Aristegui, defeated Xinyu Cai and Taylor Cataldi, 7-5, 6-3. The Cowgirl duo of Peyre and Miyamoto also got a win, besting Ashton Bowers and Anita Tu, 6-3, 6-4.
All four Cowgirls will be competing in the doubles main draw once again tomorrow, while Peyre, Novak and Miyamoto will look to continue their march through the singles bracket. Fans can follow along through live scoring on the ITF website.
