Kajuru Wins ITA Central Regional Title

STILLWATER – Ange Oby Kajuru of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team claimed the ITA Central Regional singles championship on Tuesday, besting her teammate Anastasiya Komar in Stillwater.
The pair of Oklahoma State's newest transfers have competed in Lawrence, Kansas, for the last three days to earn their way into the title match, which was played at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater.
Kajuru defeated fellow Cowgirl Komar, 6-0, 6-4, to become the first ITA Central Regional champion from Oklahoma State since Lisa Marie Rioux in 2019. Both Kajuru and Komar earned automatic bids into the ITA Fall National Championships, set to be played on Nov. 2-5 in San Diego, California.
At the ITF Jackson 15k pro circuit even in Jackson, Tennessee, three Cowgirls went unbeaten on the day. In the final round of qualifying singles, Kristina Novak defeated Sophie Llewellyn, 6-1, 6-4, before Ayumi Miyamoto bested Sana Garakani, 6-3, 6-3. Raquel Gonzalez then took down Ludmila Kareisova, 6-4, 6-4, to round out the trio of Cowgirls advancing to tomorrow's main draw.
In doubles, Novak paired with fellow Slovenian Lara Smejkal and defeated Panna Bartha and Lucciana Perez Alarcon, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), in the first round of the main draw.
Novak, Miyamoto and Gonzalez, along with the top seed in singles, Lucia Peyre, will all be in action tomorrow. Peyre, Gonzalez and Miyamoto are all set to begin singles matches at 10 a.m. CT, with Novak to follow later in the day. All four Cowgirls will also be in doubles action tomorrow afternoon.
