Komar, Kajuru to Face Off for Regional Title in Stillwater

STILLWATER – Members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team were in action across two tournaments on Monday, with two Cowgirls set to meet for a title in Stillwater on Tuesday.
In Lawrence, Kansas, Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru earned convincing semifinal wins. Komar defeated No. 51 Dana Guzman of Oklahoma, 6-3, 6-1, while Kajuru took down No. 32 Florencia Urrutia, also from Oklahoma, 6-0, 6-3.
The two Cowgirls will return to Stillwater to play for the ITA Central Regional title on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. CT. The doors will be open at the Greenwood Tennis Center and fans are encouraged to come watch the match.
In the doubles final, Komar and Kajuru came up just short in a tiebreaker, falling to Oklahoma's Guzman and Alina Shcherbinina, 7-5, 6-3, (10-5).
Moving east to Jackson, Tenn., three Cowgirls advanced through the opening round of qualifying singles at the Jackson 15k ITF pro circuit event. Kristina Novak defeated Sophia Biolay, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0, while Raquel Gonzalez bested Alice Ferlito, 6-4, 6-0. Ayumi Miyamoto rounded out the trio of wins with a, 6-3, 6-4, victory over Mara Schmidt.
Novak, Gonzalez and Miyamoto will compete in the final round of qualifying on Tuesday, while Lucia Peyre is preparing to compete as the top seed in the main draw. The doubles main draw will also begin tomorrow, with Novak and her partner from Slovenia, Lara Smejkal, beginning play at 10 a.m. CT, with Peyre and Miyamoto pairing in the next match up.
