Cowgirls Put Three in Quarterfinals in Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Four members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team competed for a second day at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Saturday.
Oklahoma State had three singles players and one doubles team make the main draw quarterfinals on Saturday. The three singles players are the most among the schools participating in the tournament.
The day began with doubles action as Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru played in the Round of 16. The pair took down the Kansas State team of Vanesa Suarez and Manami Ukita, 8-5, to advance to tomorrow's quarterfinals. They are scheduled to face Julia Garcia Ruiz and Zdena Safarova from Oklahoma at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
In singles, all four Cowgirls collected wins in the Round of 32 on Saturday. The tournament's top overall seed, Komar, completed a comeback win over Minnesota's Sofia Pinto, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Kristina Novak earned a comeback win of her own, defeating Maria Taranova from Nebraska, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Kajuru once again put together a convincing victory, ousting Kansas State's Vanesa Suarez, 6-1, 6-2. Gonzalez was the final Cowgirl to punch her ticket to the Round of 16, beating Isabel Adrover Gallego, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Later in the day, the Cowgirls claimed three spots in tomorrow's quarterfinals. Komar bested Oklahoma's Emma Staker, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), while Novak defeated Veronika Kulhava from Kansas State, 7-5, 6-1. Kajuru beat Tulsa's Oleksandra Nahurska, 6-2, 6-7 (7-5), 6-0, to become the third Cowgirl to make the quarterfinals. Gonzalez was the lone Cowgirl to see her run come to an end in the Round of 16, falling to Alina Shcherbinina from Oklahoma, 1-6, 4-6.
The singles main draw quarterfinals will begin Sunday at 11 a.m. CT with Novak, while Komar and Kajuru will follow at 1 p.m. Fans can follow along on the ITA website.
