Maxwell, Naomi Voted To Big 12 Softball Preseason Team
January 19, 2023 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma State's Kelly Maxwell and Kiley Naomi were voted to the 2023 Big 12 softball preseason team by the league's coaches, the conference announced today.
The pair makes the Oklahoma State the second-most represented institution on the preseason 12-person roster.
Maxwell looks to build off a 2022 season in which she earned first-team All-America recognition as the ace of the Oklahoma State pitching staff. The reigning Co-Big 12 Pitcher of the Year enters into her redshirt senior year with a 1.45 career ERA and a 10.28 career strikeouts per seven innings, which ranks first in OSU history. The Friendswood, Texas-native tallied 313 strikeouts in 2022 and joined Cowgirl legends Lauren Bay Regula and Melanie Roche as the only Cowgirl pitchers to eclipse 300+ season strikeouts.
Naomi enters into her fifth and final season with Oklahoma State as one of the most prolific defenders in school history. The program record holder in double plays turned, Naomi will anchor the OSU infield as she climbs further on the OSU career record lists for career slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs, hits, stolen bases and RBI, all of which she already ranks among the top 25 all time.
Honorees were selected by a vote of the league's head coaches. Players were picked regardless of position and coaches could not vote for their own student-athletes.
Maxwell, Naomi and the Cowgirls open the season February 10 when they take on Oregon at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
