The day started with Novak and Miyamoto competing simultaneously to earn a spot in the main draw. Novak defeated Mia Yamakita, 6-3, 6-2, while Miyamoto fell to Gabriella Broadfoot in a close matchup, 7-4, 2-6, (7-10).
The freshman, Gonzalez, secured her highest ranked win in a pro circuit event when she defeated the No. 3 seed, Chieh-Yu Hsu, 6-3, 7-5.
