OSU Softball Adds Norris As Director Of Player Development

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball has brought on Katie Norris as the director of player development to complete its staff.
"We're extremely excited to add Katie Norris as our director of player development," head coach Kenny Gajewski said.
"This has been a dream of mine for a long time, to have this full-time position, for our softball student-athletes in their life off the field. Katie – coming from a tremendous softball program at the University of Oklahoma and being a Stillwater native – is the ideal fit for this position to continue to make our program elite."
Norris moved right across Oklahoma State's campus – where she most recently served as a grant coordinator for the OSU Department of Wellness – to join the Cowgirl softball program.
"As the director of player development, I'll be working with the athletes on their wellbeing outside of the game of softball," Norris said.
"So that's life skills, life after softball, community service, there will be some video and analytics responsibilities mixed in as well, that kind of stuff. This position will definitely evolve as it goes on and it is a learning curve for everyone. I'm excited to see what it becomes. I love being here. I have missed softball."
Norris spent five years with Oklahoma State's Department of Wellness, coordinating grants for a variety of different public health related initiatives throughout the state.
Prior to working with the department, Norris served as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater Oklahoma. Norris worked alongside a staff named NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year in 2013.
Norris brings softball experience of her own to the OSU program. She played at Oklahoma from 2009-12 and earned All-Big 12 honors in her sophomore and junior seasons.
Norris graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2013 with a bachelor's in health and exercise science before receiving her master's in health promotion in 2017.
Born and raised in Stillwater, she is the daughter of Julie and Chris Norris, owners of Chris' University Spirit on Campus Corner.
As the director of player development, Norris is the final addition to a Cowgirl softball staff that brought in Whitney Cloer from Colorado State as its new hitting coach in June.
John Bargfeldt enters into his fourth year as the Cowgirls pitching coach.
Vanessa Shippy-Fletcher and Stacie Pestrak retain their roles as volunteer assistant coach and director of operations, respectively.
Gajewski, five months into a five-year contract extension he signed in May, captains the program as the Cowgirls prepare for the 2023 season.
