Softball America Awards Four Cowgirls All-American Status

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Softball America named Kelly Maxwell to its All-American first team, Miranda Elish was selected to its second team and Sydney Pennington and Katelynn Carwile earned third team honors, it was announced today.
The quartet marks the second most All-American selections in a single season in team history. Pam Harper, Kris Bergstrom, Kim Fabian, Jan Krug and Tina Schell set the program record at five when they were each honored as All-Americans in 1982.
Maxwell and Elish were also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American first and second teams, respectively.
A lefthander from Friendswood, Texas, Maxwell sported a 1.16 earned run average with a 19-4 record and earned Softball America first team honors as an at-large selection.
She currently ranks in the top 10 in the Big 12 in ERA, opposing batting average, innings pitched, strikeouts, wins, saves, hits and runs. She is the conference's strikeout leader with 279 heading into the Women's College World Series.
The Cowgirls' ace was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on four occasions this season, more than any other Big 12 hurler.
Elish has posted career numbers on both sides of the ball and earned a spot on the Softball America second team as a pitcher/utility player.
A graduate senior from Crown Point, Ind., Elish was a three-time selection as Big 12 Pitcher of the Week this season and a two-time selection as Big 12 Player of the Week.
She was the only Big 12 student-athlete to be awarded both weekly conference accolades in 2022.
With the second All-American honors of her career, Pennington becomes the seventh Cowgirl in history to be a two-time All-American; Softball America named Pennington to its second team in 2021.
She joins the likes of Carrie Eberle, Alysen Febrey, Shari Johnson, Melanie Roche, Michele Smith and Kim Ward as two-time All-Americans.
Pennington has been a starter in 265 consecutive games and counting, the most of any Cowgirl in program history. She is also OSU's home run queen, hitting 47 homers in her collegiate career. Pennington was also a second team All-Big 12 honoree.
Pennington ranks among the top 10 in the Big 12 in both home runs and runs batted in. She slashed .600/.600/.700 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in three games at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
A first-time All-American selection, Carwile landed on the third team in her sophomore year. She was also a first team NFCA all-region and second team All-Big 12 selection.
She is enjoying a break-out season and has become one of the team's most productive offensive weapons after tallying only 11 at-bats last year.
Carwile ranks among the team leaders in batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, runs batted in, total bases and slugging percentage as one of just two underclassmen to amass 40 starts in 2022.
She is the first Cowgirl outfielder since Cowgirl legend and Olympian Jaime Foutch was named a third team outfielder in 1996.
