Six Cowgirls Awarded NFCA All-Region Honors
May 20, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Sporting a 41-12 record, six members of the Big 12 champion Oklahoma State softball team have been awarded Midwest All-Region honors by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Kelly Maxwell, Miranda Elish and Katelynn Carwile were named to the All-Region first team.
The Cowgirls' ace and Big 12 Pitcher of the year, Maxwell, is among the top 10 in the conference in earned run average, opposing batting average, innings pitched, strikeouts and wins. She is a likely candidate for top 25 program single-season marks in highest strikeouts per seven innings, fewest walks per seven innings, win percentage, victories and complete games.
Miranda Elish, first-team All-Big 12 honoree, has made large impacts on both sides of the ball. In the circle, she boasts a 2.23 ERA with a 12-4 record. She racked up 10 complete games and tossed two of the Cowgirls' three no-hitters this season. At the plate, Elish holds top marks among her teammates in batting average, slugging percentage and RBI.
Katelynn Carwile is enjoying a breakout season and has become one of the team's most productive offensive weapons after tallying only 11 at-bats last year. She ranks among OSU leaders this season in batting average (first), runs scored (third), hits (first), doubles (first), runs scored (second), total bases (second) and slugging percentage (fourth). This marks Carwile's NFCA All-Region honors.
Sydney Pennington, Chyenne Factor and Julia Cottrill were honored as All-Region second team members.
Sydney Pennington claimed program records for games started and games played with an impressive streak of 260 consecutive games started, which equates to every game of her career. Oklahoma State's career home run leader is tied for the club lead in home runs this season with 10. Pennington is batting .321 with a team-high 42 RBI.
An everyday starter in center field, Chyenne Factor joins Pennington as the only two Cowgirls to start every game in 2022. Factor has tallied 10 home runs in 2022, tied for the team high. Leading the team in walks, Factor's .444 on-base percentage ranks second on the club. Factor has now been named All-Region in back-to-back seasons, after earning first team honors in 2021.
Julia Cottrill, one of the Cowgirls' top power threats, has already set or matched single-season career highs in runs, home runs, RBI, total bases and slugging percentage. This year's honors marks the second of her career; Cottrill was also named to the All-Southeast Region team in her sophomore season at Florida.
