OSU Equestrian Trio Earns Big 12 Rider Of The Month Honors

IRVING, Texas -Oklahoma State equestrian's Sydnie Ziegler, Molly Mitchell, and Katie Pelzel have been named Big 12 Conference March Riders of the Month for Fences, Reining, and Flat, respectively.
Ziegler, Mitchell and Pelzel all received Most Outstanding Performer awards during the Big 12 Equestrian Championship, aiding the Cowgirls to an eighth Big 12 title and a No. 1 seed in the NCEA Championship.
Ziegler was named a First Team NCEA All-American, finishing the season with a 10-3-1 record and went an undefeated 4-0 in March. The senior was also named to the All-Big 12 Fences Team. In a jumping seat only meet against Bridgewater College, Ziegler picked up MOP honors with a 78-76 win to help propel OSU in a 7-1 rout. In a suspenseful contest with then-No. 1 Texas A&M, Ziegler took another two-point win, 86-84, to help the Cowgirls in the 9-8 victory to wrap up the regular season.
Mitchell went 3-0 in March and finished the season with a 9-3-1 record, earning a Second Team NCEA All-America honor. She edged out her Texas A&M opponent by half a point for a 74-73.5 win to wrap up the regular season and earned a career-high score of 74.5 from one judge at the Big 12 Championship while receiving a 71 from the other to help OSU to its title. Mitchell was voted to the All-Big 12 Reining Team.
Pelzel also went 10-3-1 on the season and finished March with a 3-1 record, receiving an NCEA All-America honorable mention. She earned a career high score of 92 from one judge in the Big 12 Championship and received an 88 from the other, aiding the Cowgirls in their title run. The senior grabbed a 76-69 win in the upset of the Aggies, with her only loss of the month coming in the meet with Bridgewater.
Winners are selected by the conference's coaches. Pelzel is a first-time honoree while Ziegler and Mitchell picked up this accolade for the second time this year.
