Cowgirl Tennis Finishes Off Successful Weekend With Win At TCU
April 03, 2022 | Cowgirl Tennis
Oklahoma State's 11th-ranked women's tennis team capped off an undefeated weekend of conference play on Sunday, taking down TCU in Fort Worth, 4-1.  Â
Â
OSU put together another complete showing to finish off the weekend, improving to 14-3 on the season and 5-1 in Big 12 play. The Cowgirls notched their third straight win and second consecutive road victory. Â
Â
OSU captured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The Cowgirls started slowly but continued to fight, eventually persevering to take an early lead. OSU has now won the doubles point in 12 out of 16 matches.Â
Â
TCU gained the advantage to begin doubles action when Dariya Detkovskaya and Mhai Sawangkaew dropped a hard-fought match to the Horned Frog duo of Mercedes Aristegui and Isabel Pascual, 6-4. Â
Â
Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto were challenged early before rising to the occasion, taking down TCU's Alisa Soloveva and Aleksa Cveticanin, 6-4. With the team point hanging in the balance and facing a 5-2 deficit on court three, Oona Orpana and Martina Zerulo stormed back and won five consecutive games to claim the doubles for the Cowgirls with a 7-5 victory over TCU's Stevie Kennedy and Jade Otway.Â
Â
Sofia Rojas set the tone in singles action with a lights-out performance to extend the OSU lead. The Cowgirl freshman left no doubt on court four, winning the last eight games of her match on the way to a 6-3, 6-0 rout of TCU's Aleksa Cveticanin.Â
Â
TCU got on the board with Stevie Kennedy's 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Cowgirl Dariya Detkovskaya. Â
Â
Lisa Marie Rioux finished her perfect weekend in singles with a dominating victory over TCU's Alisa Soloveva, 6-3, 6-0. Tied at three games apiece in the first set, Rioux put her foot on the gas, only allowing five points to her opponent while not dropping another game. Â
Â
Moving up a court did not affect Cowgirl freshman Oona Orpana, who put the finishing touches on the match. Orpana took down TCU's Jade Otway convincingly, 6-1, 6-4, in a match she controlled the entire way. Â
Â
Mhai Sawangkaew battled to earn a 7-6 (7-3) first-set victory and trailed 2-1 when her match was called against Mercedes Aristegui. Alana Wolfberg was tied at three in the second set with Isabel Pascual when her match was stopped.Â
Â
Next up, OSU continues its road gauntlet, starting at West Virginia on Friday at 4 p.m. (CST) in Morgantown and finishing at Iowa State on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CST), in Ames, Iowa.Â
