April 22, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – A walk off home run from Julia Cottrill in the ninth inning helped the No. 6 Oklahoma State softball team defeat No. 16 Texas, 3-2, on Friday at Cowgirl Stadium.
With the win, OSU improved to 36-7 and 12-1 in Big 12 play while Texas fell to 32-13-1 and 7-3, respectively.
Cottrill walked it off in the bottom of the ninth on a solo home run to left field, her ninth of the season.
"We just got one more big hit," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "That's what it came down to, so I'm proud of Julia [Cottrill], she's been fighting, it's been awhile since she hit a home run."
Kelly Maxwell got the win, improving to 15-1. She fanned 10 batters in nine innings pitched, allowing two runs on seven hits.
Katelynn Carwile helped the Cowgirls get on the scoreboard with a two-run home run in the first inning. Carwile reached base for the 21st consecutive game, a team best. The hit also extended her hitting streak to seven games.
Texas tied up the game in the third inning on a two-run homer from McKenzie Parker. The game remained tied until the ninth inning when Cottrill hit the game winner.
Game two of the series is set for tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2
