Elish Leads Cowgirls Over Texas
April 24, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Facing her former team for the first time, Miranda Elish pitched a shutout and blasted a two-run home run to lead the No. 6 Oklahoma State softball team to a 3-0 win over No. 16 Texas in game one of a doubleheader in Cowgirl Stadium Sunday.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 37-7 overall and 13-1 in the Big 12, while Texas fell to 32-14-1 overall and 7-4 in the league. The win clinched the series for OSU.
Elish allowed no runs on two hits while fanning 10 batters in six and 2/3 innings. She picked up her 10th straight win and improved to 13-4 on the year.
One of the key situations in the game came in the third inning when Elish pitched out of a bases-loaded, one out jam. With runners on second and third, she forced a shallow flyout to center field. After a walk to load the bases, she struck out the next two to keep the Longhorns off the board.
In the bottom half of the third, the Cowgirls scored on an RBI groundout from Katelynn Carwile. Chelsea Alexander walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brianna Evans moved her over on a sacrifice bunt, allowing Carwile to drive in the run. Oklahoma State is 26-1 this season when scoring first.
Immediately after, Elish hit a two-run home run to right-center, her sixth of the season, to stretch the lead to three.
The Cowgirl defense retired 12 straight Longhorns to finish the ball game.
OSU plays game three of the Texas Series today at 1:40 p.m. CT.
