Spring Preview: Running Backs
April 02, 2022 | Cowboy Football
With spring football practice underway at Oklahoma State, okstate.com is taking a look at the status of every position group to break down the personnel and how things look heading into the 2022 season. Next up, the Cowboy running backs:
Three of the Cowboys' four leading running backs from last season are gone from the OSU roster. Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Jaylen Warren is the most notable, but long-time producers LD Brown and Dezmon Jackson are gone as well.
Junior Dominic Richardson is easily the most experienced returning player in the Cowboy backfield and could be the most natural candidate to step into the starting role. With 21 games played and 596 rushing yards in his first two seasons, he has already seen an impactful role on offense.
After Richardson, redshirt sophomore Zach Middleton and redshirt freshman Jaden Nixon have the most experience. Middleton played in four games with five carries in 2021, while Nixon played in two games during a redshirt year, recording 14 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown.
Freshmen Ollie Gordon and CJ Brown will get a jump-start on their careers as early enrollees, and walk-ons Andre Washington and Asa Osborne also return to provide depth.
