Miranda Elish No-Hits Minnesota In 7-0 Cowgirl Softball Win
March 09, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Miranda Elish pitched a no-hitter to lead the No. 10 Oklahoma State softball team to a 7-0 victory over Minnesota at Cowgirl Stadium on Wednesday.
It was the 48th no-hitter in OSU history, the fourth of Elish's career and her first as a Cowgirl – she threw a perfect game while pitching for Oregon in 2018 and had no-hitters while pitching for Texas in 2019 and again in 2020.
Elish needed to throw only 79 pitches to record the seventh no-hitter of the Kenny Gajewski era at Oklahoma State and the game took only one hour and 55 minutes as she overpowered the Gopher lineup. She finished with eight strikeouts and walked only one.
"She's a fun player to coach," Gajewski said. "I think her teammates are starting to really enjoy being around her but just an all-around good performance."
With the win, OSU improved to 14-5, while Minnesota fell to 11-10. It was the Cowgirls' ninth win in their last 10 games.
For Elish, no-hitting the Gophers is a significant milestone in her return to softball. She was the national player of the year while playing for Texas in 2020 before opting out of the 2021 season and then transferring to Oklahoma State in January of 2022.
As dominant as Elish was in the circle, Katelynn Carwile was equally as effective in leading the Cowgirl offense. She went 4-for-4 with a double and five runs batted in.
Sydney Pennington hit her second home run in as many games and both Kiley Naomi and Julia Cottrill went 2-for-3.
The Cowgirls compete at the Memphis Tournament this weekend where they will face Memphis at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Arkansas at 2 p.m. on Friday and play back-to-back games with South Dakota and Southeastern Louisiana starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
