Cowgirls twirl 10-inning no-hitter, roll past USAO in fall opener

STILLWATER—Six Oklahoma State pitchers combined for a 10-inning no-hitter in the Cowgirl Softball team's 6-0 win over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in a fall scrimmage at Cowgirl Stadium Wednesday evening.

The two coaching staffs agreed in advance to a modified scoring system for the scrimmage. Had the scoring been done traditionally, the final score would have been 18-2 in favor of OSU.

Delainey Everett, Kennedy Allen, Makala Smith, Payton Kennedy, Peyton May and Kendra Lewis teamed combined to strike out eight and walk three in the no-hitter. Everett started and pitched one inning, Allen pitched one, then Smith, Kennedy, May and Lewis pitched two innings apiece, with Smith credited with the win.

Freshmen Aliyah Garcia and Reese Poage both hit home runs for OSU, with Garcia tagging a two-run shot in the sixth inning and Poage adding a two-run blast of her own in the ninth.

Montgomery Henderson (2-for-3) was the only Cowgirl with a multi-hit performance but was one of 11 OSU players with a hit in the game.

Neither team scored in the first three innings, but OSU broke the ice with three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and three in the seventh to open up a 10-0 lead after seven. A five-run ninth and a three-run 10th capped the scoring.

The Cowgirls return to action when they host Seminole State at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cowgirl Stadium.
