Two-Run Sixth Propels OSU Softball Past North Texas
March 15, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
DENTON, Texas – Kelly Maxwell improved to 7-0 on the year and the No. 10/9 Oklahoma State softball team extended its winning streak to six with a 4-2 road victory over North Texas on Tuesday.
Brianna Evans, Chyenne Factor, Chelsea Alexander and Avery Hobson turned in multi-hit performances to help the Cowgirls improve to 17-5 overall on the year. It was OSU's 12th win in its last 13 games. North Texas fell to 14-5.
With the score deadlocked at two after five innings, the game was decided in the sixth when Evans singled home Hobson, who had to narrowly beat a throw at the plate to score. The Cowgirls added an insurance run in the next at-bat when Factor singled home Alexander.
Alexander went 2-for-4 at the plate, tallying two runs to go with a stolen base. Hobson went 2-for-2 with a run after entering the game in the sixth inning.
"So very happy with the way our kids competed all day here," Head Coach Kenny Gajewski said. "Some great at bats, some clutch hitting by Avery Hobson, Chelsea [Alexander], Bri [Evans] was really good here today, and we ran the bases very well."
The Cowgirls scored the first run of the game in the first inning, when a Julia Cottrill infield hit scored Evans. OSU also put a mark on the board in the second inning, when Alexander singled, stole second and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Maxwell struck out seven in securing her fifth complete game victory of the season. She neutralized North Texas' Tayla Evans, who entered the contest batting .385 but did not record a hit in the campaign.
