Cowgirl Softball Improves In One National Poll

STILLWATER – After winning four games last week, The Oklahoma State softball team stayed at No. 10 in the USA Today/NFCA DI Top 25 Coaches Poll and improved to No. 9 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball top 25, it was announced today.
The Cowgirls defeated Minnesota twice in the OSU Tulsa Invitational, followed by wins over Memphis and Central Arkansas at the Memphis Tournament.
The first game against Minnesota took 10 innings for the Cowgirls to get the job done. It took a walk-off walk by third baseman, Sydney Pennington, to plate the winning run. Miranda Elish led the charge in game two against Minnesota, pitching a no-hitter, and logging eight strikeouts in a 7-0 victory.
At the Memphis Tournament, the Cowgirls outscored its two opponents, 24-1, in two five-inning run rule victories. OSU claimed the first game against Memphis, 10-0, on the strength of a one-hitter from right-hander Morgan Day.
A barrage of 14 hits helped the Cowgirls to a 14-1 win over Central Arkansas in the second day of the Memphis tournament, before the next two games were canceled due to winter weather.
After week five, here's a look at where the Cowgirls rank in other national top 25 rankings:
No. 11 in D1 Softball's Top 25
No. 12 in Softball America's Top 25
Looking ahead, the Cowgirls play two mid-week matchups against North Texas, today at 6 p.m. in Denton, Texas, followed by UT Arlington tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Arlington, Texas. OSU will be back at home to host the OSU Mizuno Classic where they will play both Wichita State and Kansas City on Friday and Saturday.
