STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team rode a standout shooting performance to an 86-65 win over Loyola Marymount on Tuesday morning in front of 3,036 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowgirls shot 57 percent from the floor for the game on the way to improving to 8-2 on the year. The percentage was OSU's highest since shooting 57 percent at Texas Tech on Feb. 1, 2020.
Despite shooting 53 percent in the first quarter, the Cowgirls, led by just two at 22-20 after the Lions shot 64 percent. Fifth year Claire Chastain paced OSU in the period with eight points.
OSU eventually pushed the lead to 11 at 39-28 with 23 seconds left in the second quarter on a layup by junior Lexy Keys. The Cowgirls took a 39-31 lead at the break.
In the third quarter, OSU used a 16-3 burst, which featured four 3-pointers from junior Lior Garzon to lead, 55-36, halfway through the quarter. The Cowgirls would lead by 21 on three occasions during the remainder of the quarter before eventually taking a 65-46 lead into the final 10 minutes after scoring 26 points in the frame.
Garzon hit six of her seven 3-point attempts while scoring 18 of her game-high 20 points in the quarter.
The Cowgirls led by as many as 27 in the fourth quarter.
For the contest, OSU tallied 25 assists against just six turnovers, its highest and lowest outputs since finishing with 26 assists and five turnovers at Iowa State on Jan. 13, 2021.
Junior Taylen Collins finished with 15 points, while Chastain added 15 of her own to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career.
Fifth year Naomie Alnatas added 11 of her own.
