2023 Oklahoma State Softball Position Preview - Outfield
December 19, 2022 | Cowgirl Softball
Fresh off a third-consecutive trip to the NCAA Women's College World Series, Oklahoma State has reestablished itself among the nation's elite softball programs. As the 2023 Cowgirls prepare for their chance to play on the sport's biggest stage, check back in regularly at okstate.com for a breakdown of the OSU roster by position group. Up next, the outfielders:
Â
The Oklahoma State outfield is a balanced group of upperclassmen leaders and freshman talent. Graduate senior Chyenne Factor and juniors Katelynn Carwile and Scotland David return for the Cowgirls, while freshmen Haidyn Sokoloski, Katie Lott and Angelina Craig join the outfield unit. The group of six offers head coach Kenny Gajewski and volunteer assistant coach Vanessa Shippy-Fletcher a variety of looks.
Â
After a breakout year for Carwile, the 2022 third-team All-American and second-team All-Big 12 honoree has locked down the starting role in right field. Boasting a .335 batting average and tallying seven bombs and 33 RBI last year, Carwile was one of the Cowgirls' most productive offensive weapons. Gajewski will rely on her for that same consistency as Carwile figures to play a pivotal role for OSU this season.
Â
Factor will captain the OSU outfield from centerfield, where she has started every game over the last two seasons. Named to the first-ever preseason All-Big 12 team ahead of the 2022 season, Factor certainly lived up to expectations. She smashed 10 homers, tallied 35 RBI and maintained a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. She was honored with second-team All-Big 12 recognition and second-team NFCA All-Region honors. One of the Cowgirls' most consistent athletes in each of her four years at OSU thus far, Factor will cement her name in a number of program records lists in her final collegiate season.
Â
After a freshman season in which David saw action in 33 games, the Ponte Vedra, Florida-native was kept from competition during her sophomore season due to injury. Following her transition to the outfield this summer, David can be an impact in the grass or on the basepaths.
Â
Hailing from Flower Mound, Texas, Sokoloski has already established herself as a talent. The No. 17 nationally ranked prospect in the 2022 Extra Inning Softball Extra Elite 100, Sokoloski comes to Stillwater with a laundry list of accolades after her time at Flower Mound Marcus High School, including roster spots with the 18U Alliance Super Cup All-Tournament Team and 18U USA National Team in 2022. The 2022 DFW All-Area Senior of the Year will be valuable addition to the OSU roster.
Â
Lott made her presence felt immediately as the starter in left field for a handful of the Cowgirls' 2022 fall contests. Lott comes to OSU from Cypress Woods High School, where she was a four-year letterwinner, and led her team to a District 16-6A championship. She was named to the Texas Sportswriter Association All-State team and to the NFCA High School South Central Region second team in her final year at Cypress Woods. With the skill to back up the impressive accolades she's collected, Lott is a likely candidate to start in left field for Oklahoma State.
Â
Craig certainly has potential to excel in America's Brightest. Boasting a .530 batting average her senior year, Craig hit eight home runs, 12 doubles and three triples for Buffalo Grove High School. In two seasons with Iowa Premier National Gold, the outfielder averaged .360 at the plate and totaled 16 home runs and 98 RBI. She also nabbed 46 bases in that span, making her a viable option on the basepaths as well.
Â
Anchored by two stellar returners along, add in a promising trio of freshman and the Oklahoma State outfield is sure to be an important element as the Cowgirls' compete to reach a fourth-consecutive NCAA Women's College World Series.
