Cowgirl Duo Advances to Semifinals At Big 12 Invite

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team opened play at the Big 12 Fall Invite at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday.
The morning commenced with doubles where No. 1 Ayumi Miyamoto and Kristina Novak advanced to the semifinals by defeating Kansas State's Florentine Dekkers and Vanesa Suarez, 6-3, before besting Oklahoma's Dana Guzman and Emma Staker, 6-4, later in the day.
Alana Wolfberg and Raquel Gonzalez tallied a 6-2 win against Momoko Nagato and Michaela Kucharova of West Virginia before falling to Baylor's No. 4 Anita Sahdiieva and Lyubov in a close matchup, 6-7 (1).
Amber Hochstatter and Sofia Rojas lost to Texas Tech's Olivia Peet and Yekaterina Dmitrichenko, 3-6, but bounced back for a 6-2 victory in the consolation bracket versus Rosanna Maffei and Rozalia Gruszczynska of Kansas State.
The tournament format consists of three flights in singles. Rojas, Gonzalez, Wolfberg and Novak each competed in Flight A, while Miyamoto represented the Cowgirls in Flight B.
The lone singles win came from Miyamoto as she defeated Momoko Nagota from West Virginia, 6-4, 7-6 (5), and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Rojas fell to Kansas State's Dekkers in a close match, 6-7 (6), 3-6, and Gonzalez lost to Malkia Ngounoue of Kansas, 6-1, 6-2. Wolfberg dropped her match against No. 4 Peet (TTU), 7-5, 3-6, 3-6 and Iowa State's Anna Supapitch Kuearum defeated Kristina Novak, 6-1, 1-6, 2-6.
The Cowgirls will be back in action with doubles Saturday at 10 a.m. (CST). Updated results and times will be posted on the official ITA website and on Twitter.
