Maddison Hinson-Tolchard Returns Home For ISPS HANDA Australian Open
November 30, 2022 | Cowgirl Golf
MELBOURNE, Australia ---- Oklahoma State women's golfer Maddison Hinson-Tolchard is set to compete Thursday at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia at both Victoria Golf Club and Kingston Heath Golf Club.
Â
In a world-first for golf, the ISPS HANDA Australian Open is bringing together Australia's national men's and women's Open events, along with the All Abilities Championship. The players in Melbourne includes Australia's best male, female, and All Abilities golfers, as well as a small group of DP World Tour, LPGA Tour, and global All Abilities stars.
Â
The field will play 36 holes of stroke play, with the top 60 professionals and amateurs advancing to the third round. Following Saturday's 18 holes of play, the field will be cut to the top 35 players, who will then play the final 18-hole round on Sunday to determine the champion.
Â
Men and women will be playing in alternating groups across both courses over the first two days, while the final two rounds will be played solely at Victoria Golf Club.
Â
The trip will be a return home for Hinson-Tolchard, who was born in Perth, Australia, where she spent much of her amateur career before moving to Stillwater to play for the Cowgirls.
Â
At Oklahoma State, she has seen an immense amount of success throughout her three years in school, helping guide the Cowgirls to a National Runner-Up finish in 2021 and then earning the Big 12 Player of the Year award in 2022 as a sophomore.
Â
Hinson-Tolchard continued her successful ways throughout the fall with a pair of top-10 finishes in the Cowgirls' first four events of the 2022-23 season. In October, she fired a career-low 204 at the Illini Women's Invitational, finishing in 3rd place.
Â
The Australia native has also been busy the last few months gaining plenty of international experience alongside her collegiate play. As a result, Hinson-Tolchard rose as high as 89th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings at the beginning of November.
Â
Earlier this month, Hinson-Tolchard represented her home country at the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship, where she advanced past the cut before eventually placing 29th. In August, she made a splash at the U.S. Women's Amateur at Chambers Bay in August before competing at the World Amateur Team Championship in Paris, France later that month.
Â
Hinson-Tolchard will tee off Thursday at 1:44 p.m. AEDT at Victoria Golf Club.
Â
Locally, she begins play Wednesday night at 8:44 p.m. CT.
