In the Rankings
The Oklahoma State football team was voted No. 18 this week in both the AP Top 25 and the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. It marks the 22nd consecutive AP poll that the Cowboys have been ranked in the top 25. Including 2022, OSU has reached the top 10 of the AP poll at some point in 11 of the past 15 seasons and has seen a top 15 ranking in the AP poll in 13 of those 15 seasons. Although the first College Football Playoff rankings won't be released until November 1, it's worth noting that OSU has been part of the CFP rankings in six of the past seven seasons entering 2022. Kansas is not ranked.
Â
22 Straight Polls in the AP Top 25
Oklahoma State has been ranked in every Associated Press poll since September 26, 2021, which is a streak of 22 consecutive sets of rankings for the fifth-longest run in school history. Here are longest streaks:

The Series
Saturday's game marks the 73rd meeting between Oklahoma State and Kansas in a series that dates back to 1923. OSU owns a 41-29-2 all-time series advantage, including a 23-15-1 advantage in Lawrence. OSU has won 12 straight and 17 of the past 18. The Cowboys have also won nine straight games vs. the Jayhawks in Lawrence. A win Saturday would extend the longest win streak for either team in the series. It would also give OSU 13 straight wins vs. Kansas to extend a school record for its longest win streak against one opponent. OSU's next-longest is an 11-game streak that was set vs. Kansas State from 1947-62. Coach Mike Gundy is 13-1 in his career against Kansas, while KU coach Lance Leipold is 0-1 against the Cowboys.
Â
Oklahoma State from a Distance
The No. 18 Oklahoma State football team is 6-2 following a road loss at now-No. 13 Kansas State, but the Cowboys are still in the hunt for a second-straight Big 12 title game appearance and can also still reach the 10-win mark in 2022, which would mark their eighth 10-win season since 2010. This season marks the third consecutive year and the 11th time in the Mike Gundy era that the Cowboys have started 6-2 or better. OSU is now 20-4 in its past 24 overall games, matching its best record over a 24-game stretch at any point since the 2010-11 seasons. The Cowboys are also on a school-record home winning streak of 13 straight games and have won three of their past five and six of their past nine road games. Coach Mike Gundy's team pillars of "Discipline and Toughness" (DAT for short), have continued a years-long run of success into this season. The most telling "DAT" stat of the season is the fact that Oklahoma State ranks No. 3 in the FBS in fewest penalties with only 3.88 per game. On top of that, the Cowboys accomplished something in their win over Texas that they had never done before by finishing the game with a final stat line that showed 0 penalties for 0 yards. Offensively, Oklahoma State has the No. 12 scoring offense in the FBS at 39.1 points per game and ranks No. 7 in the FBS by scoring 94.4% of the time when they reach the red zone. OSU's passing offense is also among the top-20 in the nation as the Cowboys average 294.4 yards through the air. On defense OSU has continued to build on its tradition of winning on third down, allowing a conversion rate of only 26.4% for the sixth-best mark in the FBS. The Cowboys are also ranked No. 10 nationally with an average of 7.6 tackles for loss per game. Kickoff returns and field goal success have created the standout numbers on special teams, as the Cowboys rank No. 4 in the FBS with an average of 26.23 yards per kickoff returns and kicker Tanner Brown is making his case for the Lou Groza Award by ranking No. 3 in the FBS in field goals per game, and No. 5 in scoring with 11.0 per game. He's made 14 of 15 field goals this year with a long of 52 yards. Other individual standouts include safety Jason Taylor II, who is a semifinalist for the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, and quarterback Spencer Sanders, who looks to repeat as the first team All-Big 12 quarterback while leading the conference in total offense again in 2022.
Â

• Make it 7-2 or better for the second straight season and for the 10th time in the Mike Gundy era.
