Cowboys Talk Responding from TCU and Looking Forward to Texas
October 18, 2022 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State football team suffered its first loss of the season in a double-overtime game with No. 8 TCU. The Cowboys met with the media on Tuesday following practice to discuss bouncing back at practice from Saturday's game and looking ahead to No. 20 Texas coming into Boone Pickens Stadium on Saturday. Here is some of what they had to say:
Defensive End Collin Oliver
On the team's response this week:
"We're responding well. Mindsets are in the right place and stuff like that. It's always tough to lose but we're going to bounce back well."
Â
On preparing for a non-running quarterback:
"We prepare for scrambling going against Spencer [Sanders] every day in practice so going against a guy who is going to sit in the pocket and hold the ball, I can't wait for it."
Â
On preparing for a good running team:
"It's nothing we haven't seen so far. Bijan [Robinson] is a great running back you know, and we're just going to prepare like we have every other week."
Â
On facing ranked opponents:
"I feel like we're built for it. This` team believes in ourselves and everybody calls us the underdogs but we feel like we're not. If we're going in there with that mindset, we'll be just fine."
Â
Safety Sean Michael Flanagan
On bouncing back from the TCU loss:
"No one likes to lose but, in this conference, and football in general, it's just on to the next play. We got to do what we got to do now, but we'll just move on to the next.
Â
On the motivation they're taking into this week:
"We can see where we messed up and can see a lot of things we need to fix. I think getting that done will give us a lot better shot getting further in this conference."
Â
On tackling with minimal contact in practice.
To improve tackling with minimal contact, you just have to take an extra step. Tag off and just make sure you're close enough to make a tackle in a game."
Â
On Kendal Daniels:
"I think he could be one of the best here. He's fast, strong and huge so I don't see why not."
Cowboy Back Braden CassityÂ
On his 38-yard reception:Â
"I'm blessed to have that opportunity. The catch was awesome, but more so the fact that I was given that opportunity to do something like that. It was huge to me. That doesn't happen very often. I was super grateful for that and just happy that it came my way."Â
Â
On knowing his role:Â
"My big thing is knowing your roles, and my role is run blocking. Maybe I'll get a bone thrown to me here and there. But whatever the team needs me to do, I'm going to do it regardless. If they want me to go run into a brick wall, I'll run through a brick wall."Â
Â
On bouncing back from TCU:Â
"I think last week is in the rearview mirror. We had an awesome Tuesday practice today. Even though the temperature dropped a little bit and guys were taking a little bit longer to get warmed up, we had an awesome day today. I'm fired up for this game, now. I know a lot of other guys are too. This isn't one that we take lightly by any means, every year. We'll bounce right back on our feet and get back to work."Â
Â
On having a new perspective of the game:Â
"I'd say I'm a student of the game and an absolute, passionate fan of the game. This is something that was a dream of mine growing up, so every Saturday is a blessing. As I'm getting older now, and slowly coming to the end of my career, in the next year or so, every single game means a little more to you at this point. You start to realize that 'oh my gosh, I might not be doing this forever.' It's just such a blessing. I do find myself in practice now getting fired up just for a game, knowing we're working for a win on Saturday." Â
Â
On the running back group:Â
"A lot of young guys, Ollie Gordon and Jaden Nixon, they're stepping right up to bat, no hesitation at all. I think Dom's doing an awesome job and all those other guys. In the next few years, they're going to be a problem for other teams."Â
