KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Oklahoma State softball team continued its fall season with two wins in a doubleheader against Wichita State and UMKC Saturday afternoon at the Urban Youth Academy Fields. The Cowgirls defeated the Shockers, 12-2, before closing the day with a 4-2 win over UMKC.Â
With the victories, OSU moved to 3-0 in the young fall season.Â
The Cowgirls started play against the Shockers, with Kyra Aycock earning her first start for OSU as she fanned four batters in four innings of work in the circle.Â
Wichita State grabbed an early 1-0 lead, in a game that featured eight home runs, thanks to Lauren Mills'Â solo shot in the second inning. However, the lead didn't last long as Katie Lott blasted her first home run of the season, a two-run homer, to put the Cowgirls ahead, 2-1.Â
OSU tacked on five more runs in the sixth inning, courtesy of Lott's second home run of the day and Tallen Edwards' first of her career, to cushion the lead to 10-2 heading to the final inning of action.Â
Ivy Rosenberry finished the game in the circle for the Cowgirls as she pitched three scoreless innings to secure the win for OSU in its opening game of the day. Â
Less than an hour later, OSU changed fields to face UMKC with All-American Kelly Maxwell getting the nod in the circle. Maxwell pitched three scoreless innings, striking out seven in her first appearance of the fall season.Â
Micaela Wark put the Cowgirls up 1-0 in the second inning following her first home run of the day.
The Cowgirls scored one in the third and two in the fourth to push their advantage to 4-0 through five innings of action.Â
The Roos added two in the bottom of the seventh to cut the OSU lead to two runs, but Bailie Runner came in and earned the save in the 4-2 win. Â
Oklahoma State will be back in action Friday, Oct. 7 in Wichita, Kan. to take on the Shockers once again with first pitch set for 5 p.m.Â
